How to access Sabalan Mountain Peak Hot Spring?

Sabalan has a total of 3 famous peaks. The biggest peak is Sultan. The other two peaks are pyramids and fractions. Sabalan is a dormant volcanic mountain in northwest of Iran. It starts from Qarahsoo valley in the northwest of Ardabil which extends in the east-west to Qushadagh mountain. The existence of a lake at the top of it attracts many tourists to this area.

The most common route is in the northeast, which starts from Shabil spa on Ardabil-Meshginshahr road. Sabalan lake is located at an altitude of 4811 meters and has a depth of about 40 meters. The lake has a temperature of zero degrees Celsius in the hot months. Algae and crustaceans are the main organisms of this lake. There is also a natural stone in the shape of an eagle which is a symbol of Sabalan. The Turks call this mountain Savalan and the Talis call it Seflon.

Reach the Summit of Sabalan

There are three ways to reach the summit of Sabalan, which we will present here: Northeast route, Western and the southern. The northern route is the most common route to reach the summit which starts from Shabil resort. The access route is marked with signposts and makes it easy to reach the summit. The western route starts at the foot of Qara Gol lake. After passing the pyramid and the huge glacier of the pyramid, it reaches the western sanctuary and then the summit of Sabalan.

The southern route starts from the south of the peak. There is no refuge on this route. This front is the most difficult way to climb Sabalan peak. It also consists of large rocks. Alvares ski slope, one of the best equipped ski slopes in Iran, is on this route.
