Sassanid Archaeological Landscape
An ancient cave dating back to the 18th century is located at an altitude of 800 meters in the city of Kazerun. At the entrance to the cave, you will encounter the huge statue of Shapour I of Sassanian Empire. The location of Shapour statue in this cave made it famous as Shapour Cave. This statue was made by forming a 7-meter stalagmite, which is a column of minerals on the floor of the cave. After many years, it still stands.

Kazerun Shapour Cave
The cave is inside a mountain with minerals. The mouth of the cave is 30 meters long and 15 meters high. Before entering the cave, there is a crypt on the left, part of which is handmade. About 10 meters after the entrance of the cave, the 7-meter statue of Shapur I appears.
Shapour Cave consists of several parts. The first part is relatively flat and leads to the edge of a precipice. Both sides of the walls of this section were sculpted and smooth, and apparently prepared for carving reliefs or writing, which are left half-finished and nothing can be seen on their large ledges. At the left end, two reservoirs have been dug in the rock at a distance of 0.5 meters from each other, which are about one meter deep.
